All ideas are good – we look for the best.

We don’t have more than the ideas we have. To find out the ones we want to detail further, the market potential is an important scoring criterion.

Based on the data and estimates we found in the pre-gate phase, we can decide which of the project ideas should move to the next level of detail.

Potential can also be cost saving, solving quality problems or technology leadership. The information can be packaged into use cases, customer journey, value proposition….

What happens at the gate?

With the passing, it is decided that this project idea is attractive. In the subsequent gates, we check whether we can do it and whether we want to do it on the basis of the effort involved.

A mandate is given to a small team to compare costs and benefits and to determine the technical feasibility of the idea.
In the Agile setup, this team is formed by the so-called “Product Owner Team” (POT = project manager, lead engineer or system architect, market representative), which may also involve individual specialists in the development.
